So, I’m starting a blog.
I’ve entered this new “phase”: post high school life. It’s kinda a
scary big portion of life. Lots of decisions and changes.
And I’m going about things a little differently. I’m not heading off to college, traveling cross culturally, or participating in an internship like many of my peers are. I’m staying home with my family in the little town of Eden, NY. I’m pursuing some things that are out of the ordinary:
- Eden Valley Goat Milk Soaps – I just started my own business selling all natural soaps made from my own goats. I’m learning all sorts of things: how to make a quality product at a cost-effective price, how to manage financial accounts, and how to market my product effectively.
- Homesteading – All throughout highschool, I’ve been interested in natural living and homesteading. But I’ve been so consumed with studies, jobs, and high school activities that I haven’t taken the time to pursue these interests. I want to start. And I’m thinking now is a good time. I want to learn how to make all natural meals, optimize our gardens, effectively care for my animals, and so much more.
- Online Education – I’m hoping to continue my “formal” education through online classes. I want to study nutrition and health sciences. My dream would be incorporate nutritional counseling, homesteading, and Eden Valley Goat Milk Soaps into one business promoting healthy, God-glorifying lifestyles :).
- Relationships – People are important to me. I want to use these years to invest in relationships in my family, my church, and my community – to serve and love them just like Jesus does.
I am passionate about the simple life – learning, experimenting, and ministering in the everyday situations that come across my path. Yes, I’m taking an unbeaten path.
Sometimes this is hard. It’s hard to be unconventional, to be different. It’s hard to work for myself, to make my own schedule and decide my own projects. Sometimes, it’s hard to stay motivated.
But really, this life is not about myself. It’s not about having a successful business, getting a great education, having money, or always being happy & comfortable. So often, in pursuing this new “phase” of life, I can get caught up in all the temporary goals of this world. But all this will fade away.
Only God is eternal. His Word and the souls of people are the only things on this earth that will last forever. I want to invest my life into what’s eternal – into the kingdom of God. I want to follow His Word and love people. I want my life to count.
So, in my business, homestead, education, family life, community activities, and whatever else God puts into my path, I am making it my aim to be well-pleasing to the Lord.
Now that you know a little bit about me, hopefully you’ll stick around this corner of the web! I’m hoping to post helpful articles regarding our soap, updates about special sales and new products, and happenings around the homestead.
I live a blessed, crazy life and absolutely love doing what I do!
