It’s hard to believe that summer is already coming to a close for 2016! We’ve had an extremely full season with all crazy summer activities and trips. Trying to keep up with everything on homestead can sometimes be tricky!
My family has been busy in our gardens – we’ve had a great harvest of lettuce, beans, zucchini, watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, and squash. We’ve been freezing a lot of produce and making a lots of meals with fresh veggies :).
Our strawberry crop was delicious, but not as plentiful as usual because of the drought. And our raspberries are coming in slower due to the dryness as well – hopefully, they perk up a little bit with the recent rain!
Summer has been my prime time for milking – I milk our two milking goats twice a day and get about a gallon a day. I am freezing a bunch now to help us last through the winter!
The goats are enjoying as much as green grass as they can get (it’s been a little harder to find with the drought!). One really nice addition to our homestead this year was a gift from my grandpa – a portable pen to move around the yard so that goats can graze in new, fresh grass every day. They love it!
The soap production has been going pretty steady throughout the summer – I have a few new scents I want to try out in the near future in the hopes of adding them to our soap line in the up-coming months. Do you all have any suggestions??!
Well, there’s a brief update about life on the homestead this summer. Fall is coming quickly upon us – soon it will be nearing the holiday season! Be on the lookout for some special gift packages and deals in the upcoming months!
P.S. If you are local, come visit me at the Flavor of Hamburg Festival THIS SATURDAY (August 27th)!! I will have a tent on Buffalo Street from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. I’d love to see you there!
