Activity on the Homestead

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted an update about the happenings around the homestead.   We’ve had a lot of excitement and projects these past few months.   Here are a few snapshots of the homestead happenings:

We always love the summer months because that means we have baby goats on the farm!  They are so playful and full of life.   We had four babies born on the homestead this year and they never ceased to give us excitement.

A big project we tackle this summer was moving the shed and making a larger goat pasture.   It started like this:

And ended up like this:

The goats have so much more pasture now:

Throughout these warmer months, we love taking the goats on walks and letting them graze around the property as well.  I have some excellent “goat herders” :).

In midst of all the craziness of life, I love to spend time around the homestead and enjoy some of the simple things in life.  Such a blessing!

So there’s a glimpse at some of the homestead happenings recently!

P.S. Make sure to check out our Soap of the Month, Honey Oatmeal!  It is 10% off through October 31st.  Also, if you buy 4 bars of any scent, you get 1 Honey Oatmeal FREE!  Go here to check it out!

October’s Soap of the Month!

Wow! It’s been quiet here in our corner of the web for the past few months!  But that’s not because of a lack of activity here at Eden Valley Homestead :).   I’ve been busy with soap making, goat keeping, and ongoing sales.  And unfortunately, our online presence has taken a backseat with everything else going on.

But I’m excited to say that I’m hoping to get things back and running on here :).   And by popular demand, the first thing we want to bring back is our Soap of the Month!

So without further ado, October’s Soap of the Month is a customer favorite:

Honey Oatmeal!

This soap is mixed with pure local honey and speckled with grounded oatmeal.   It is a great exfoliating bar for your face and body alike!

Here are the specials we will be running throughout the month:

  • 10% off all Honey Oatmeal bars (The discount also applies to sales on Etsy!)
  • Buy four bars of soap (of one size, any scents), get one Honey Oatmeal bar free!

If you’ve never tried this bar, now is the time to get it!!   It is one of our customers’ favorites and works great for all skin types.   It is also perfect for those sensitive to fragrances as it has no added scents besides the light sweetness of the pure honey.

These specials will run throughout the entire month of October!

Be on lookout for more activity around here in the upcoming days :).   Looking forward to sharing homestead updates, more soap specials, and interacting with you all on here once again!

Winter on the Homestead

Good afternoon, folks.

We have been enjoying a mild winter here in Western New Year.    In the lieu of snow for the majority of the season,  the goats have been able to get out and enjoy walks and time in their pasture.    Here are a few snapshots from around the homestead this winter.

We had some absolutely gorgeous sunsets!

Even with a milder winter, there were still a few snow storms.   They were beautiful too (especially since they didn’t last long :).

Our goats are doing well.  We had two of them, Gnocchi & Perogi, bred in November and they are expecting baby goats in mid to late April!    Right now, the goats are resting comfortably and their pregnancies are going smoothly.

So, although we are thankful for a warmer winter, we are eagerly anticipating spring’s arrival!  We are SO excited to have baby goats back on the farm.

Fall on the Homestead

Hello All!

It’s been a little bit since I’ve posted on here.  Life on the homestead has been busy to say the least!

The fall weather has been absolutely stunning – another wonderful reminder of our Creator’s beautiful design and faithfulness throughout the seasons.   Here are some snapshots:

One of the big projects of this fall was cementing our barn!! This was a big undertaking – taking everything out, laying the cement (thankful for professional friends who came to help!), and then building everything back in the barn.  The goats really got an upgrade when it was all said and done!

                                                                    The emptied barn.

Fresh poured cement!

We all got our hands wet 🙂

The new goat cages!! (Sorry for the low quality picture.)

I’ve also been busy experimenting with a new soap scent – I hope to share it with you all in the coming months!

The Top 3 Things I’ve Learned from 1 Year of Business

dscn3054-1

Starting my own business making a natural product from our homestead had been a dream of mine for a long time, but I never thought that it would happen so soon.  I can’t believe that Eden Valley Goat Milk Soaps is already 1 year old!  Now, as I look back over this past year of business, I realize that I’ve learned so much from this whole experience.  Nothing teaches you more about business than starting your own business!

Here are the top three things that I’ve learned from starting Eden Valley Goat Milk Soaps:

  1. Seek Advice.   Whether it’s attending a workshop, talking to a fellow entrepreneur, studying advertisements, or discussing ideas with my trusted business adviser (a.k.a. My dad =D), I have found that I learn so much and gain most of my inspiration and ideas from listening to others.   My ears perk up when any-business-related topic comes up.  I am so much more attentive and appreciative to other small, local businesses and enjoy hearing what marketing & management methods they’ve found to be effective.   I am interested in listening to consumers talk about they find appealing to them in products.   In starting my own business, I’ve found that opportunities to learn are everywhere when I am looking for them.
    img_20160818_165207518
  2. Marketing & Customer Relationships.  I’ve learned that having a business is not just about having a good product, it’s about having good customers.  The greatest thing about starting this business is all the connections I’ve made with my customers.   I love hearing from people who are enjoying the soaps and finding them to beneficial for their skin.  This takes marketing – building a website, engaging on social media, offering beneficial information in conversations in person & online, having attractive displays, etc.   All these things are SO important in building good relationships with customers.   In starting this business, I’ve learned that customers are my greatest assets! (This calls for a huge THANK YOU TO ALL MY WONDERFUL CUSTOMERS!!!)
    img_20160430_150350000
  3.  Time Management. Running my own business means scheduling & managing my own time.  I love the flexibility that this gives me.  However, I am learning that the more time I am able to put into the business, the more productive the business is.   Having short-term and long-term goals that I am constantly working towards, making a schedule and sticking to it,  and staying current in my marketing & customer service are the biggest steps that I can make towards progress.   In one year of business, I have learned that time is my greatest investment.

So, there you have it, folks: the top three things I’ve learned from being in business.   If you ever have considered starting your own business, I would say go for it!   It takes a lot of time and work, but the lessons you gain through it are worth it!

A side note:  REMEMBER TO ENTER OUR 1 YEAR GIVEAWAY!!   You have one week left to enter to win 7 bars of soap!  Don’t miss it :).
